My monitor hates me.

Since I changed the resolution from 1280x1024 to 1400x1050, there's been a really high pitch sound coming from my monitor. I could lower the resolution or refresh rate, but I'd rather not. This is driving me completely crazy. I read about someone who opened up their monitor and applied some glue to the horizontal output transformer. I wonder if I should try that?

Books

Yay, got both Designing from both sides of the screen and The inmates are running the asylum in the mail today. I'm really looking forward to reading them, especially the former.

Amazon is pretty cheap and fast for over-seas shipping these days, which is nice because imported books are really expensive in bookstores in Sweden.

Gnomemeeting rocks

I finally got my webcam working again. It's been broken since I got a new computer, and everytime I plugged in the cam, the mouse and keyboard would stop working. Sometimes the mouse and keyboard worked, but then the soundcard would die instead, and so on. I'm pretty sure it's a conspiracy. Anyway, it's working now and Gnomemeeting rocks!

Went for a long walk with Anders, went by Johan's new place for some spying action. Didn't see anything interesting though, like Johan himself for example.

I haven't done a lot of hacking lately, just a bit of Gossip tweaking and getting the typing monitor to work on multihead setups. Xnest is a pretty useful for testing that kind of thing, when you only have one screen yourself.

HIG reading

Today seems to be a really wonderful late summer day. Warm, but with a nice breeze... I'm looking forward to the fall now, I'm starting to get a bit tired of the heat.

I just re-read parts of the HIG. You can tell there's a really huge amount of work put into it. It's too bad some parts are a bit difficult to implement in a good way, though. Good thing we have Glade/libglade.

Movie day

Today I watched Terminator 3, Bruce Almighty, Matilda and Jurassic Park III. Pretty productive, couch potato-wise. Usefulness-wise, not so good ;)

Actually, I did hack up a small workaround for a bug in MrProject that seems to have surfaced after some change in the latest stable release of GTK+. So I wasn't all that bad, after all.

Struggling

Struggled with rpmbuild and gettext for a while and then released a new Gossip with Mikael. There's a lot of fun coding ahead now!

I've been trying to get a replacement for my broken cellphone for a week now, but they are out of that particular model everywhere. A good side-effect of not having a phone is that I now know that I have friends that care, asking me why my phone is off all the time ;)

On the edge

I've been running 2.6.0-test* kernels for a while which hasn't been too bad until today, when I got several hard freezes and lost some data so now it's back to safe old 2.4. Life on the edge is demanding!

I haven't had much time for hacking lately which sucks a bit. I did fix two bugs in Gossip today though, which is better than nothing :). As Johan is such a loudmouth, I might as well admit that I've been hacking a bit on Jamboree too, which is loads of fun!

Another warm day

Yet another sunny and warm day, which makes it somewhat hard to get any work done. When I grow up and get lots of money, I will buy an AC ;).

I've started integrating a patch for typing notification for Gossip. With that, the anti-popup thingy and the small fixes here and there, I think we'll have a pretty nice next release. It's loads of fun to hack on something small and simple for a change!

On the documentation front, work is progressing nicely and I'm learning a lot in the process. I never thought that I would ever enjoy web development... am I getting old or crazy?? Probably a bit of both ;)

New home

Since sloff.org is expiring soon, I thought I might as well let it do that and stop using my desktop machine as a server... Since I upgraded it to a recent Athlon, it gets kind of hot and hot is what I need the least right now, it's pretty darn hot as it is :) I think people.imendio.com is a good new home for my blog and the other pages.

So, Movable Type seemed to be a good choice, being very customizable and having an RSS feed and all. We'll see how it turns out. I clearly need to fix the style soon for starters :)
